Puffin

One of the birds which has been tagged with DSTs is the Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica). The study was conducted in Vestmannaeyjar, south east of Iceland, during the summer of 1997 and 1998 by Vestmannaeyjar Research Center. The goal was to gain more information about the feeding behaviour of puffins, e.g. how deep it dives into the sea and how long it stays submerged when searching for food. The puffin is a rather small bird (500 g) and it was interesting to see how a bird of that size copes with the tag.
