Puffin

One of the birds which has been tagged with DSTs is the Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica). This study was conducted in Vestmannaeyjar, south east of Iceland, during the summer of 1997 and 1998 by Vestmannaeyjar Research Center. The aim of the study was to gain more information on the feeding behaviour of the puffin, e.g. how deep it dives into the sea and how long it stays submerged when it is searching for food. The puffin is a rather small bird (500 g) and therefore it was interesting to investigate how a bird of this size would cope with the tag.
