Memory size: 174,000 (or 523,800 in centi-ex) measurements in total
Battery life: 5 years
Depth survival: Down to 3500m

The DST centi series is a small underwater data logger available with one or two sensors: temperature and depth. Data is stored in a non-volatile memory.  All measurements are time related, utilising a real time clock inside the DST.  The DST centi is different from the DST milli having longer battery life and larger size.

DST logic
The DST logic unit allows scientist to choose a depth limit when the DST logger should start recording depth and temperature. As soon as the logger gets below certain depth it is triggered to begin storing measurements, the whole memory can be used for wanted measurements and not wasted on recordings above theface. This is particularly useful when conducting research on fishing gear, where the logger spends considerable time on the deck, or on marine animals that spend much of their time at or above the surface (seals and seabirds etc.).

Programming Options
The user selects the sampling interval when starting the loggers.  The default programming has depth and temperature recorded as pairs. The logger can be programmed for more frequent samplings of either depth or temperature. If the logger is programmed with a single interval, it records at the same interval through the whole measurement period.  An option is to select mulitple intervals within a measurement sequence, up to 7 different sampling intervals can be defined within a measurement sequence.  This is especially useful when more frequent measurements are needed at a certain time period, for example during spawning period of fish.

Features
  • Specially designed for tagging fish, for analysing fish migration, distribution, feeding behavior, vertical  and horizontal movements.
  • Ideal as a stand-alone logger for  environmental studies, for underwater temperature and depth recordings, especially on fishing gear.
  • Ideal as temperature and depth logger for mooring or profile applications.
  • Available as a temperature recorder only, doubling the memory.
  • Weights 19g in air and 12g in water.
  • Size 15mm x 46mm.
  • Temperature range -1°C to +40°C (30°F to 104°F), outside ranges available upon request.
  • Depth range can be selected up to 3000m (300 bar).
  • Long battery life of 5 years (typical).
Applications
DST centi is specially designed for tagging fish, for analysing fish migration, distribution, feeding behavior, vertical  and horizontal movements.  The tag can be used externally or implanted in fish.  If tagged internally, Star-Oddi can deliver the tag with a plastic tube attached that is visable on the exterior of the fish, and can easily be identified by fishermen.  For external attachment on fish, Star-Oddi can provide special wire fasteners.  DST centi is ideal for research on other marine animals as well (birds, crustaceans or reptiles) .  The recaptured DSTs provide valuable information on the behavioral patterns of the tagged animal.  For recapture and return purposes, customers can add their own text on the housings.  The housing is made of bio-compatible material, which does not endanger the health of the tagged animal. The non-transparent housing ensures that the sunlight does not affect the measurements, providing reliable data.

DST centi is also ideal as a stand-alone underwater temperature logger for recording depth and temperature in ocean/freshwater environments.  The DST can be fastened to fishing gear or other underwater equipment, collecting valuable data. Star-Oddi offers a protective housing for the DST centi, made of polyurethan plastic.

Easy to use

DST centi series is supported by the SeaStar software for Windows, and a communication box which connects to a PC computer. All communications and data transfer is wireless via the communication box.  DST is inserted into the box for establishing communication, using the SeaStar software.  Before use of the DST, the user sets the sampling interval and start time of recordings.  After recapture of DST, the data is retrieved to a PC computer, using the communication box and SeaStar software.  The logger can be re-programmed and reused as long as battery lasts.
