Aquatic & Fisheries DST Compass Tilt Star-Oddi.com

A combined compass and tilt logger tag with temperature-depth sensors

Overview:
Sensors: Compass, Tilt (in 3-D), Temperature and Depth
Memory size:  20,000 measurements per parameter
Battery life: 2 years
Dimensions: 15 mm x 46 mm
Depth: Down to 3000m

Application examples:
  • For analysing fish movements/direction over longer periods.
  • Finding pattern infish behavior, diurnal/seasonal, for improving knowledge on the ocean's resources.
  • Analysing orientation of fishing equipment, and underwater gear.

Features

  • The DST comp-tilt measures in addition to temperature and depth, relative compass heading of the DST, with reference to the magnetic north, and tilt in 3 directions.
  • The data for the compass heading and tilt are showed in degrees (°).
  • Compass measurements are tilt compensated, meaning that an increase in tilt has little influence on the compass accuracy.
  • The compass measurements have +/-15° accuracy, and tilt +/-2° accuracy.
  • The tag can be programmed with different sampling intervals for compass-tilt and temperature-depth.
The sensor can be used for analysing movements of marine animals as well as various underwater gear. For analysing fish movements, it is advised to fasten the tag at both ends to avoid limiting movements of the tag.  For this external tagging application, Star-Oddi offers specially designed fastener kit where the DST com-tilt is fastened to a plastic plate.

Easy to use

DST series is supported by the SeaStar software for Windows, and a communication box which connects to a PC computer.  All communications and data transfer is wireless via the communication box.  DST is inserted into the box for establishing communication, using the SeaStar software.  Before use the user sets the sampling interval and start time of recordings.  After recapture the data is transferred to a PC computer, using the communication box and SeaStar software.  The logger can be re-programmed and reused as long as the battery lasts.  The data is shown in graph and table, each measurement has its own date and time.
