Star-Oddi has been working closely with the Marine Research Institute of Iceland for many years, one of the projects is the Underwater Tagging Equipment (UTE) made by Star-Oddi. 21-26 October 2003 there was a successful tagging cruise where the UTE was used to tag over 200 redfish. Another product from Star-Oddi which enables new approach in fish research is the GPS Fish Positioning System for analysing fish migratory pattern.
General knowledge about migratory route of fish is limited. Information on geographical distribution of commercially interesting fish resources are available, but until present it has not been possible to follow single fish or schools of fish in time and space over great distances. The GPS Fish Positioning System will increase knowledge on fish migratory routs, and provide major contribution to sustainable management of fish resources.
