DST CTD and DST CT are the smallest salinity loggers on world market. The DST CTD is specially designed as an archival tag for tagging fish for analysing fish migration, distribution, feeding behavior, vertical and horizontal movements. DST CTD and DST CT must be fastened externally on the fish as the salinity sensor must be in direct contact with the seawater. Star-Oddi can provide fasteners for external attachment if used as an archival tag. The archival tags are ideal for research on other marine animals as well. The recaptured archival tag can provide valuable information on the behavioral patterns of the tagged animal. For recapture and return purposes, customers can define their own text on the housings. The housing is made of bio-compatible material, which does not endanger the health of the tagged animal. The non-transparent housing ensures that the sunlight does not affect the measuring and therefore provides more reliable data.
DST CTD is also used as a stand-alone logger for sampling in the oceans. DST CT without depth recordings is ideal for mooring applications, at a fixed known depth, increasing the memory size, and lowering the price. For applications as fastening the CTD to fishing gear, Star-Oddi offers a protective plastic housing, for use under more harsh conditions (see pictures below).

DST CTD logger and DST CT logger are supported by the SeaStar software for Windows, and a communication box which connects to a PC computer. All communications and data transfer are wireless via the communication box. DST is inserted into the box for establishing communication, using the software. There is no need for opening the DST, and the logger can be reprogrammed and reused as long as battery lasts. Before use of the DST, the user sets the sampling interval and starting time. After recapture of DST, the data is retrieved to a PC computer, using the communication box and software.
