DST milli: Increased memory size and communication speed
 Star-Oddi has made enhancements to the DST milli types of temperature depth data loggers. Memory size has been doubled, from 43,000 to 87,000 measurements in total and the communication speed is now four times faster.
The DST milli-TD is one of Star-Oddi's most popular products and is ideal for fish and marine animal tagging, attaching to fishing gear or used as a stand-alone logger for subsea data collection.
The whole milli range is available with an extended flash memory capacity of 682,000 measurements in total.

The DST micro-T in cattle research
 The Livestock Issues Research Unit has written the article, "Development of a self-contained, indwelling vaginal temperature probe for use in cattle research" which appeared in the October issue of the Journal of Thermal Biology.
The article describes a research conducted by the Unit where a device was used to monitor vaginal temperature in female cattles. The device was made up of an indwelling vaginal probe and a Star-Oddi DST micro-T data logger.
One of the main benefits of the device is that it lessens the handling of the animal which, in turn, reduces stress and other negative effects that human presence can have on cattle. The device therefore offers a good alternative to rectal temperature monitoring devices that are commonly used in this kind of research.

The month of Thurseblot
One of the things that Icelanders do to lift their spirits during the dark midwinter is attending a "Ŝorrablót" or Thurseblot.The feast lasts about a month, from late January til late February and the period is usually referred to in Icelandic as "Ŝorri".
The blot is held in honour of the Norse god Thor and is usually celebrated with a dinner and a dance which is held sometime during the month of "Ŝorri". The dinner is often hosted by various associations or town councils and is often one of the biggest events of the year in many Icelandic towns.
The food served at this event might not be to everyone's liking though. Ram's testicles, boiled sheep head and putrefied shark are just some of the "delicacies" that are served on a "Ŝorrablót". This is then all washed down with Icelandic "Brennivín", a brand of akvavit.
